freezing

mochi recently got a haircut and the poor little girl is now shivering from the cold weather in michigan.
i had to put a tshirt on her today, for the sole purpose of warmth, not for looks.
mochi is a heat seeker. she is willing to lie down and cuddle with almost anyone who is warm or has a source of heat.

Bart- the Cat

here's a photo of Bart. Mochi's met Bart before, but I wouldn't call their encounter a memorable one.

Bart's pretty handsome, and dare I say it... perhaps a tad more charming than his counterpart GOB.

wow

Mochi's fame has spread all the way to S. Africa!

mochi has been exhibiting some new play-time behavior. she is no longer as timid as she once was.... having been exposed to rough play by her best friend(s)- pip and thou who shall remain unnamed- biting fingers, not letting go of her toys, and pouncing fiercely have all been incorporated into her game-time regimine.
oh dear, how do i now deal with playing with a boy-like dog?

the kids rough housing

another clip due to popular demand!!

complex

I'm complex, mochi's not. i sure didn't CHOOSE to be complex, just like mochi didn't choose to be small, white, and not racist.

ps- we went for a walk today at the old dog park and it was full of young men playing frisbee golf. i had never encountered such a sport until today......

dog parks

Ballard/Sullivan: Dog parks increase our quality of life

http://www.lsj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070826/OPINION02/708260607/1085/opinion

According to the Lansing State Journal, there are benefits of dog parks in our community!

Benefits of a good dog park include:

• Give taxpayers/dog owners a public park designated for use with their pet.

• Promote responsible pet ownership through rules, including enforcement of required county licensing.

• Demand canine good behavior. Owners learn to train their dogs in order to use the park.

• Confine off-leash dog play to a safe area, protecting the rights of joggers, small children and people who may fear dogs using other open areas.

• Promote leash law enforcement by providing a safe public park for off-leash activity.

• Foster a sense of community among dog owners and pet lovers.

• Improve the health and well-being of dog owners and their pets through exercise.

• Improve community well- being. Well-exercised dogs are less likely to bark excessively, create a nuisance or destroy property.

• Deter crime and unwanted activity in isolated areas, such as the area of the soon-to-open Soldan Dog Park in Scott Woods.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mochi might make an appearance at this dog park, so look out!

i feel sorry for a dog that can fit in that...

today, mochi was given a leopard print velour overcoat (if you will), and a classmate of mine said he felt sorry for a dog that could fit in that. mochi is very small, and of course in nature, such small dogs probably shouldn't exist. well to this i say, i feel sorry for people who can't fit into certain clothes. you say you didnt choose to be fat, well, i say mochi didnt choose to be small.
she doesn't have a choice of being cute, she just is. she doesn't choose to be loved, she is.
she didnt choose NOT to have opposable thumbs... she just doesn't have them.
to all those that say small dogs shouldnt be... i say, i'm sorry you aren't loved as much as they are.

barking

mochi has been making more noises lately. At first, I attributed it to moving to a new enviroment, and nervousness. I'm now living in a very suburban neighborhood, minivans, kids, and dogs...the whole lot. As Mochi and I walk around the block, it isn't uncommon to hear dogs barking. I always wish at those times, I could put ear muffs on her so she doesn't pick up this haibt of barking. it's like cursing with kids...once theyhear it... it sticks!
you can't unlearn things like barking, or cursing. they are there for life!

we'll see how it goes throughout the year.

racist dogs

mochi isn't racist, but there are tons of dogs that i know who are. is it really how they were raised, reflections of their owners? or are some dogs just born racist?

today mochi was called a dumb blonde... as much as i dont want to admit it, sometimes she plays the part well....too well.

mochi's victims!

Okemos, Michigan

The weather here has been odd. It's been cold these past few days, reminding us that winter is just around the corner. However, today, it is sunny again, as if summer never left.
Last night, mochi had a playdate with a foxhound mix type dog. At first, she was happy, but then when Sydney took more interest in Mochi, Mochi wouldn't have any of it. She growled, annoyed that this other dog was all up in her face, sniffing her, pawing at her. She ran around and around, snapping at Syd occasionally. Mochi has the personality enough for multiple dogs, and she would prefer it to stay that way.

Mochi's 2nd Birthday

She feels like an old lady already. Having already ripped the eyeballs out of her stuffed camel, and her new toy mouse, what is there left to do around the house? She walks around moping that nobody will pay one bit of attention to her.
Little does she know, I'll be gathering a few of her not so favorite friends, other dogs, to our house for a little doggy party.
it might stress her out, but then again, what's life without a little stress.
